This residential project, in collaboration with Valerie Buchheit, explored prefabrication by way of custom modular building to create a two story house for a heavily wooded site in Big Run, PA.  Large clerestory windows wrap around both the north and south sides of the house, both incorporating the ample natural daylight that has already been filtered through the leaves of the surrounding trees, as well as the colors of those leaves and the daylight as the seasons change.  Constant diagonal views across rooms and the sense of continuity created by the clerestories help expand the rooms inside the house.  A mixture of traditional and modern elements inside allow for the house to accept a more nuanced and eclectic series of collections and furnishings.  The overall effect is of a comfortable and casual cabin that can expand from a single story empty nest house to a two story 3 bedroom house when the grown children come back for visits.
